Nicholas is the Director leading the criminal practice of the firm together with the Managing Director Mr Irving Choh. Nicholas is also experienced in dealing with Workplace Safety and Health matters, Workplace injuries and Corporate Governance matters.
Before joining Optimus Chambers in July 2018, Nicholas was appointed a Legal Service Officer (“LSO”) with the Singapore Legal Service Commission. As a LSO, Nicholas was seconded and served in the Attorney-General’s Chambers as a Deputy Public Prosecutor, the Ministry of Manpower as a Senior Prosecuting Officer and the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority of Singapore (“ACRA”) as the Assistant Registrar of Companies.
At these organisations, Nicholas has conducted numerous prosecutions across a wide spectrum of offences including white collar (Companies Act, cheating and corruption), offences against the person (including rioting and unlawful assembly), drug (including capital offences), unlicensed money-lending and vice offences. Nicholas has also conducted disciplinary proceedings against errant Public Accountants in his capacity as the Prosecuting Counsel of ACRA.
Apart from his proficiency with criminal and disciplinary prosecutions, Nicholas is also held in high regard for his knowledge and teaching capabilities. In this regard, he has conducted training sessions for Singapore Police Force Officers and Ministry Investigators on the law of white collar offences, investigation techniques and Companies Act offences. In addition, Nicholas oversaw the training of investigators in the setting up of the Financial Reporting Surveillance Department in ACRA. In his capacity as the Head of the Training and Development Department in ACRA, Nicholas has also trained more than 10,000 company directors on director’s duties.
Nicholas also actively pursues development in the area of Corporate Governance. In this regard, Nicholas was part of the editorial and project management team that produced the inaugural series of Corporate Governance Guidebooks published by the Singapore Institute of Directors in 2016. Nicholas was also part of the Corporate Governance Council secretariat reviewing and making amendments to the Code of Corporate Governance.
Outside of work, Nicholas volunteers his time at grassroots and church activities and always enjoys a good meal out with his family and friends.
